Gambling help in Germany

Germany has a dense network of local addiction counselling centres (Suchtberatungsstellen), most run by charities and funded by the states, and many offer free, confidential gambling counselling without referral. Nationally, the federal public health institute BIÖG (formerly BZgA, renamed in 2025) runs a free gambling helpline and the self-help platform check-dein-spiel.de. Several states run their own coordination offices for gambling addiction with specialist services, including a Turkish-language helpline. Outpatient and inpatient treatment is usually covered by health or pension insurance. Self-help groups, including Anonyme Spieler (Gamblers Anonymous), meet in many cities, and debt counselling (Schuldnerberatung) is available free through charities and local authorities.
